How is phonics taught?
Phonics is taught through:
- daily, 30-minute discrete lessons
- the validated systematic synthetic Phonics Bug scheme
How is reading taught?
Reading is taught through:
- daily phonics lessons
- modelled reading
- shared reading (whole class)
- guided reading (group)
- 1-to-1 reading
- independent reading
- home reading
How is writing taught?
Writing is taught through:
- discrete handwriting lessons
- daily phonics/spelling lessons (Phonics Bug scheme/No Nonsense Spelling scheme)
- discrete grammar and punctuation lessons (supported by the No Nonsense Grammar scheme)
- immersion in high-quality texts (CLPE)
- teaching the key structural and language features of text types
- shared and modelled writing
All children are taught and given the opportunity to apply the writing cycle (plan-draft-edit/revise-redraft) in a range of contexts.
